Where Every Child
Is One of a Kind

Our Story

One of a Kind Childcare Center was established in February 2023 with a vision to provide safe, affordable, and high-quality childcare for families within the community. Founded by Alexus Yancey-Duncan, the center was created to offer children a nurturing environment where they can learn, grow, and thrive.

Since opening, the center has experienced tremendous growth by expanding classrooms to serve children of various age groups and developmental stages. Today, the center proudly offers a free Pre-K program for 4-year-olds, helping prepare children academically, socially, and emotionally for kindergarten success.

What Makes Us Different

At One of a Kind Childcare Center, we combine quality early education with a warm, family-centered environment where every child feels valued and supported.

We believe every child is unique, which is why we create learning experiences that encourage individual growth, confidence, and success. Our programs focus on the whole child—supporting social, emotional, academic, and creative development through engaging, hands-on learning.

We are committed to providing affordable, high-quality childcare without compromising the level of care and education families deserve. Through open communication and strong partnerships with parents, we work together to help every child learn, grow, and thrive.

Alexus Yancey-Duncan

In the world of early childhood education, few individuals shine as brightly as Alexus, the dynamic director and owner of One of a Kind Childcare Center. Known affectionately as the “Daycare Boss,” Alexus has dedicated her life to nurturing young minds and empowering her staff. Her journey in childcare began in 2010, and since then, she has made a significant impact in the field.

A Passion for Early Childhood Education

Alexus’s love for early childhood education blossomed during her high school years. As a senior, she attended career prep classes though Warren Consolidated Schools focusing on childcare, where she discovered her passion for working with children. This early exposure laid the foundation for her future endeavors in the field.

After graduating, Alexus took her first steps into the professional world as an assistant teacher at the Boll Family YMCA. Her career quickly expanded as she worked in various roles, including floater, lead pre-K teacher, and assistant director. With experience across all age groups, including children with special needs and Autism, Alexus has developed a well-rounded skill set that enhances her ability to provide quality care and education.

A Vision for the Future

Driven by ambition and a commitment to excellence, Alexus aims to revolutionize childcare services. Her goal is to establish a network of 24-hour childcare centers that cater to families of all income levels, ensuring that quality education is accessible and affordable. With an Associate of Arts in Early Childhood, a Child Development Associate credential, and a state license as a Childcare Center Director in Michigan, Alexus is well-equipped to lead this initiative.

Currently, One of a Kind Childcare Center is licensed for 60 students and boasts an impressive 4-star rating from Michigan’s Great Start to Quality program. In addition to her flagship center, Alexus also owns a second childcare facility in Dearborn Heights, further expanding her reach and impact in the community.

Entrepreneurial Spirit

Beyond her work in childcare, Alexus is a multifaceted entrepreneur. She is the proud owner of LexiLu Handbags LLC and co-owner of Kind Transportation LLC, a venture she runs alongside her husband, Brandon. This entrepreneurial spirit reflects her dedication to creating opportunities not just for herself, but for others as well.

Family First

At the heart of Alexus’s life is her family. Married to Brandon, the couple shares two beautiful children: Alaya Faith, age 7, and Brandon Jr., just 3 months old. Family time is a priority for Alexus, who cherishes every moment spent with her loved ones.

Inspiration and Motivation

Alexus lives by the motto: “Dream Big. If you can imagine it, God can do it.” This philosophy drives her to pursue her dreams relentlessly and inspires those around her to do the same. Through her work, she not only shapes the lives of children but also mentors her staff to become exceptional educators.

Conclusion

Alexus is more than just a childcare center director; she is a visionary leader, a dedicated mentor, and a loving mother. Her commitment to early childhood education and her entrepreneurial ventures make her a remarkable figure in her community. As she continues to dream big and inspire others, there’s no doubt that Alexus will leave a lasting legacy in the world of childcare.
